SMAGA is a voluntary group formed in 1945 to look after the
interests of Societies and allotments affiliated to the group within
the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport.
SMAGA continues to build on it's relationship with the Council on
all matters that affect the running, provision, maintenance and
services to societies borough wide. It has built up a relationship,
over many years with SMBC and is recognised by them as an important
player in the allotment community.
There are regular meetings at Stockport Town Hall which
societies are invited to attend and where a member of the Council
allotment team is present to take and field questions of concern.
The actual 'association' is undergoing a re-structure and
re-branding exercise to better reflect the professional and quality
services it can offer.
These services vary from reduced rates on certain products to Health
and Safety information to members, together with technical advice /
general assistance on applications for grant fundings for societies,
constitutions etc.
Grants are available from many sources and SMAGA has the in-house
knowledge to assist in applications and on how to best place your
project and present it to these types of organisations as well as
the advice on what to include and what not to do!
SMAGA is a voluntary organisation and therefore relies on voluntary
support, this however in no manner reduces the impact SMAGA has as
an association on Stockport Borough Council's management of the
allotment sites and the organisation is in regular consultation with them on our
members behalf. |
